About Water Play AZ
Nature Lovers
We’re the People
Who Skip Brunch
to Be
on the Water by 6am. 🌅
Let’s be honest: most Arizona water guides read like they were written by someone who once saw a lake from an airplane window. Generic lists. Stock photos. Zero mention of which parking lot will eat your car’s undercarriage alive.
That’s not us.
Water Play AZ was built by people who actually live this stuff. We’re on the water before the jet skis wake up. We know which coves go glass-flat at sunrise and which launch ramps are secretly trying to destroy your inflatable SUP. We’ve gotten sunburned at Roosevelt Lake in November and somehow called it a great day.
Arizona’s waterways are one of the most underrated outdoor playgrounds in the country — and we’re on a mission to prove it, one lake at a time.
What We Cover
Arizona is full of surprises. Most people think “desert” and picture tumbleweeds and dry heat. What they don’t picture is 130 miles of crystal-clear reservoir tucked between canyon walls. Or a bass fishing scene that would make a Floridian jealous. Or a swimming hole so cold and perfect in July that you’d swear you accidentally teleported to another state.
We cover it all:
🏄 Paddleboarding
From the flat water paradise of Lake Pleasant to the winding channels of the Colorado River, we’ve paddled it, we’ve documented it, and we’ve learned the hard way which spots are beginner-friendly and which ones will humble you in front of your family.
🎣 Fishing
Arizona is a sleeper hit for anglers. Largemouth bass, stripers, catfish, trout, the fishery here is serious business. We share the spots locals actually fish (not just the ones on the tourism brochure), the seasonal patterns that actually work, and the licensing info you need to stay legal.
🏊 Swimming Holes
Fossil Creek. Slide Rock. Seven Falls. Havasupai. Arizona’s hidden swimming holes are nothing short of magical and knowing which ones are overcrowded, which require permits, and which are worth the hike separates a great day from a disaster.
🚣 Kayaking
Whether you’re paddling through the Salt River canyon or navigating the calm waters of Saguaro Lake, Arizona’s kayaking scene rewards those who know where to look. We do the scouting so you don’t have to.
⛵ Boating
From Lake Havasu’s party scene to the quiet coves of Lake Powell, Arizona’s boating destinations range from “bring the whole crew” to “this is my personal slice of paradise.” We cover launch ramps, marina tips, rental options, and everything in between.
Our Philosophy
We believe the best travel content comes from people who actually go to the places they write about. Every guide on Water Play AZ is grounded in real experience, real launch ramps, real parking situations, real water conditions, real catches.
We also believe Arizona deserves better representation. This state has world-class water activities hiding in plain sight, and we’re here to give them the spotlight they deserve.
A few things we will always be:
✅ Honest about the bad stuff (yes, some parking lots are terrible)
✅ Specific about the details that actually matter
✅ Up to date on permits, conditions, and access changes
✅ Free of generic fluff that wastes your time
A Note on Affiliate Links & Advertising
We keep this site running through a combination of display advertising and affiliate partnerships primarily through the Amazon Associates Program and other outdoor gear retailers.
When we recommend a product, it’s because we’ve used it, researched it, or know it’s genuinely right for Arizona conditions. We will never recommend something just because it pays a higher commission. Our readers’ trust matters more than a few extra dollars.
Some links on this site are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you make a purchase — at no extra cost to you. These commissions help keep the site alive and the guides coming. We appreciate every single click. 🙏
